ANDRÉ ROBERT, Le Mesnil sur Oger, Champagne- Ardenne

Bathed in the world of champagne throughout his childhood, Bertrand Robert took over the estate in 1961, with his wife Colette joining him in 1990. Bertrand’s daughter, Claire joined her father in 2013 and now works beside him in the vineyards and cellar.

CLOTILDE, Le Mesnil sur Oger

Clotilde, an homage to the first queen of France, is a Blanc de Blanc Cuvee from the Grand Cru vineyards of Michel Turgy in Les Mesnil – Sur – Oger. This extremely limited release is only available in California and France.

THIÉNOT, Champagne

Since 1985, Alain Thiénot, who comes from a family native to the Champagne region, has been building new Champagne House. The challenge of penetrating a milieu where the greatest names began their existence as far back as the 18th century is testament to the character of this determined entrepreneur, and combines his fundamental beliefs of terroir, technical mastery and the ability to share his knowledge with others. Today, Champagne Thiénot is in the capable hands of Stanislas and Garance, the company’s leaders and ambassadors. Alain Thiénot, ever present at their side, continues to share his knowledge and secrets.

Chateau Belgrave 2012

Situated at the extremities of the St-Julien appellation, separated from its neighbour Château Lagrange by only a stream, Château Belgrave is one of the oldest Cru vineyards in the Médoc. In 1855 it was classified as a 5th growth because of the exceptional quality of its deep gravel soils. The soils at Château Belgrave show remarkable diversity. Two hillocks made up of gravel and pebbles deposited thousands of years ago by the Garonne river, overlying a bed of clay, rise to 23 and 26 metres. This type of soil is favourable to late-ripening grape varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit-Verdot, which now covers 4% of the surface area following remodelling of the vineyard. The gravel thins towards the foot of the hillocks, where the soil is a combination of gravel and sand offering good drainage, and clay outcrops, which are particularly adapted to the cultivation of Merlot.

The 2012 Belgrave is deep and concentrated in appearance. The complex bouquet reveals dark fruit aromas of blackberry and cassis, precious woods and mint, enhanced with a subtle mocha note. Initially velvety on the palate, the wine gains in body, with the very delicate and silky tannins adding structure. The wine is well-balanced and fresh throughout the tasting, and elegant until the lingering finish

BEEKEEPER MONTECILLO VINEYARD ZINFANDEL 2017

“From a volcanic site high atop the Moon Mountain region above Sonoma Valley, this impressive knockout of a wine is thick and tightly wound in its youth, yet still imparts deeply etched components of sanguine currant, dried herb and earth. Balanced and powerful, it is structured and graceful, with a juicy core of blackberry and raspberry. This will do well in the cellar; enjoy from 2027–2030.” —V.B. , 95 points

Limited availability of the Arcudi Black Sears Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon 2017

At 2400ft elevation Black Sears is the highest vineyard on Howell Mountain and is among the highest vineyards in all of Napa Valley. The Black Sears family is committed to caring for the land they love and call home, farming organically and biodynamically in the vineyard. The site barely needs any irrigation with its deep roots; the vine growth is so well balanced in this exceptional location. The clusters are beautiful: loose, with very dark, thick-skinned berries. Being at such a high elevation, the vineyard is situated above the inversion layer, so it is warm in the morning and shaded from the hot afternoon sun. This gives the flavors time to develop while keeping the sugar levels in line, resulting in a wine with beautiful balance.
